2011 Building of the Year
Beautifully situated on a vast lot on the edge of a forest in The Netherlands. A beautiful geometric structure with open and light interiors allowing for views for miles. The interiors focused on accentuating the garden & forest exterior surroundings with large open windows, cantilevered levels & roofs, and large overhangs. Incorporating timbered volumes, the space was meant to resemble that of a fallen tree in a storm, while the main living quarters of the home is where the inhabitant finds shelter and protection. This reinforces the abstract appearance/shape of the sculpture.
“The building becomes part of the poetry, part of the memory, it becomes meaningful.”
One of the most beautiful, organic, and smart architectural structures. True conception, from start to finish.
